Brandon Inge 2K5 - 02-19-2005, 12:55 AM

He is listed as 3B almost anywhere he appears, and looks to get a fair amount of PT there this year. Up til 2004, he had no clue as a hitter, but at age 27 he turned in a respectable .287, 13, 64 in 400+ AB. He also qualifies at C under most systems. What is his value as a #2 C?

I just responded on another post on Inge but here is my take on him. He has cut his Ks down since coming up in 01. Here are his bb/k: .22/.24/.30/.44. There has been improvement in each of his seasons. Another factor here is Tram really likes Inge so he will see many ABs at 3B, some at catcher and some in the OF. Here is also another factor is that Inge doesn't know enough to quit. When Irod was signed last season instead of resigning to being 2nd catcher on the team he went out to learn 3B and the OF so could make himself valuable to the team. This totally won Tram over. He has a desire and willingness to work hard. I'm not saying he will repeat last year numbers but he looks to be a better option than a few other catchers out there. I would say $5-7 would be the range.

Is there any chance Inge sees at least 20 games at catcher this year? I'm guessing that with Wilson on board but wanted to see if anyone had any more insight. I have Inge at $1 which fits nicely into one of my catcher spots (as a full time 3. Would love to be able to keep him there in '06 as well.

Vance Wilson was signed to be the 2nd catcher behind Irod so it's hard to say at this point.

$5 for a #2 C is a damn good #2 C. - 02-19-2005, 04:22 PM

I can believe Tram likes a guy that has that much work ethic though. Trammell always had a more physically gifted player right next door to push him. IF he gets 500 AB he has value, even in a mixed league. And if Pudge gets hurt again, he could easily get his 20 games behind the plate. Not having to catch everyday will help the hitting.

Given that Inge will be a full time player this year, what mixed league catchers would you compare him to in terms of value in a 5x5 (he is C eligible in my league)? Over or under Matt LeCroy?

I put him about even with LeCroy. I think LeCroy is a slightly better hitter, but Inge will get more AB's, so it will even out.

Inge owners rejoice this year....cuz his value with be zilch next year as he is only 3B eligible. He has had a revival but I don't see him getting the extra position eligibility next year...which is his value..jmho

After watching him in several games.....he has impressed me as much as anybody. I still think he loses most of his value once he loses C eligibilty...but for this year only.....his hitting approach looks very impressive.
