fantasy baseball league idea -
01-05-2005, 11:42 AM
I was on the Yankees msgboard the other night and someone started a fantasy GM league that I thought was really awesome...I think I saw that someone posted something very similar to this on the RJ forums not long ago... but if not, would anyone be interested to starting up a fantasy league similar to this one that we could play on yahoo:
----------------------------------------------- This is a free fantasy league that we will run through this thread and we can talk to each other through AIM. The team that you pick is as it was on the first day of the offseason(that means nobody has been signed, resigned, or traded). Then remove the players who are free agents and their salaries from your team, add $30 million, and that's your budget for the year. For example: Team A spent $100,000,000 last year. Thay have $25,000,000 worth of free agents. $100,000,000 minus $25,000,000, plus your $30,000,000 equals $105,000,000. That is Team A's budget, with $75,000,000 allready spent on the current roster. Every team starts with $30,00,000 to spend. Teams with higher total payrolls can trade expensive players in order to free up more money for FA signings. Trades: Trades are easy and obvious, and the trading deadline is the same as in the mlb. You cannot make a trade that will push your budget beyond its means. The only way to increase your budget is to make a trade that brings a specific amount of money to your team. Free Agency: Every night at 5:00pm eastern time as many as 3 players can be put on the block untill 9:00pm eastern time of that night. You can only start the bidding on one player per night so that other people can put their choices up too. Bidding ends at 9:00pm of that night and the person that has the highest bid at 9:00pm wins the player. The original bid for a free agent can be as low as $300,00(the league minimum) but every bid must be at least $500,000 more than the previous bid. THERE WILL BE NO TIES. The first player to bid the winning amount wins. Also any bids that are edited are void. All FA signings are for one year deals, of course. Real life transactions have no bearing on our league. All transactions must be reported in this thread, along with an updated roster, with salaries, and an updated budget to include total team salary and total funds available . Player Release/Waivers: If you decide to release any player on your team, you lose all rights to that player and cannot sign them back via FA even if someone else decides to put them up. When you release a player, post your releases. If you release a player after the regular season has begun, you are responsible for 50% of that player's contract. If you release a player after the All-Star Break, you are responsible for the entire salary of the released player. Every player that is released is regarded as a free-agent and can have an opening bid placed upon him. One week before the season starts we will all join a private (free) yahoo fantasy league. Everyone will submit their current rosters to the commish, who then holds the "draft", which is just plugging the players into the teams who own them in our game. All transactions will be suspended from the time that all owners have joined the Yahoo League until the team's rosters have been entered by the commish. From there, it's fantasy baseball with all the unclaimed players still in free agency. Depsite the ability to pick up free agents and offer trades on the yahoo site, all transactions must be handled here, and can only by implemented on the yahoo site once it has been posted, with your updates, in this thread. Trades should be discussed using AIM or email, and posted to this thread when finalized. Disabled List: You can put players on your DL, and sign a FA to take the spot. However, you are still responsible for the salary of the player(s) on the DL, and the replacement FA cannot exceed your budget. All minor leaguers maybe traded or put on your roster as you wish. Obviously, budget constraints stay in place throughout the season. The way you find your free agents is this: 1. go to www.espn.com 2. Click on MLB on the left-hand column 3. Click on free agent tracker in the left-hand column of the MLB section. 4. Click on Select Old Team and click on the team whose free agents you want to see. To claim a team you must have: 1) Roster, Payroll and Free Agents posted in this thread 2) A valid AIM sn |

After reading their thread of 200+ posts... I want to create something like that. There will have to be a team thread and a transaction thread of some sort..... I guess tonight they started to bid on FAs- the only 3 you coudl bid on tonight were Beltre, Beltran and Pavano who all went for about 30 mil/yr.. Of course these above rules would change to accomodate everyone... so people like thedude22 who have to work will get to bid on FAs... I'll figure out some stuff within next few days... Other than that.. I'll post teams that people are interested in keeping...
- max is 20 teams on yahoo so we could do 20 thedude22 (chicago cubs) jestaticx (baltimore orioles) fluffybunnies (washington nationals) |

I was in a tight race in fantasy football (2002) when the team I was playing competing with for the league title changed their name from Pimp Juice to Fluffy Bunnies. When we all posted messages giving him a hard time he responded "When you tell you friends and family you lost and they ask who won the league tell them the Fluffy Bunnies won the league." The original fluffy bunnies lost to me in the championship game so I never had to say one word. Ever since then I have used that moniker on any fantasy site as homage to that owner. Plus it just makes me laugh calling my teams Fluffy Bunnies amongst other teams called Killers or Dominators or what have you. Am I lame or what? |
