I've only heard day-to-day as well. I bet he sits for a few games and then plays sporadically for a week or so to test it out and then he'll be back up and running the last few weeks of the season.

I think it's more serious than day-to-day. The question seems to be whether he comes back in a week or two or three or whether he's out for the season. I don't think anybody really knows at this point. He's supposed to get an MRI tomorrow, and those results and how he feels over the next week or so will probably determine whether he attempts to come back this year or not.

KS-
I think you are correct. I have him on my team that is in contention and I'm bummed, but I will be prepared to replace him next week with KGinter or KGreen. Hopefully one of those two will step it up and keep my team in it for the stretch run. www.worldsgreatestenglishclass.com |

Reyes likely done for year Ankle shelves Mets' phenom By JULIAN GARCIA DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER As if the final month of the season wasn't going to be depressing enough, the Mets found out yesterday that phenom shortstop Jose Reyes likely will miss their remaining 26 games due to a severely sprained ankle. Reyes injured his left ankle on the final play of Sunday's game against the Phillies when he slid into second trying to break up a double play. Reyes' cleat apparently got caught in the dirt, bending his foot back. Before yesterday's 3-2 victory over the Braves at Shea, Reyes hobbled into the Mets clubhouse on crutches with his ankle heavily wrapped. Reyes described his condition as "day-to-day" and said he was hopeful that he could return soon. But during the game, he was examined by team physician Dr. Andrew Rokito, who recommended that Reyes not play for a minimum of three weeks. The sprain was diagnosed as Grade 2, which general manager Jim Duquette said "generally takes three to six weeks to recover from." Though X-rays showed no break, Reyes will have an MRI today. Since being promoted June 10, Reyes has hit .307 with 12 doubles, five home runs, 32 RBI and 13 stolen bases, while proving to be one of the team's most clutch players. The 20-year-old gave Mets fans reason to cheer while Mike Piazza missed three months with an injured groin. Even though the Mets would rather not play out their season without a player as exciting as Reyes, Duquette said they will proceed with caution, especially since their games are meaningless at this point. "It's tough not having him in the lineup, that's for sure," Duquette said. "But you really have to look at the long-term picture with an injury to this kind of player." After a week of treatment, Reyes will be reevaluated before the Mets decide what to do next. Duquette did say that Rokito told him he expects the rookie to make a full recovery. While he's disappointed to lose one of the most potent pieces of his lineup, Art Howe also said it's best that Reyes not be rushed back. "Sprained ankles take awhile," Howe said. "I know he's young, but he can only heal so fast." |
