Rich Eisen No Longer At ESPN -
06-03-2003, 10:14 AM
ESPN and Rich Eisen parted ways today. They could not come to terms on a new agreement. I do not know if he left or they booted him, but he's no longer there.
I like Eisen as a sportscaster. I hope he ends up somewhere else. Support your local brewery. Check out my Indians blog at Tribe Ball. Follow me on Twitter. |

he's getting married next week - the wife is calling the shots
![]() Seriously, hate to see him go as he's one of the better ones. As long as they don't mess with the Baseball Tonight Crew...... The Baseball Tonight team is brutal.
I only watch it if Tim Kurkjian and maybe Gammons, on a good day, is on, otherwise I rather watch Home Shopping Network............I agree with the positive opinions on Rich Eisen, a great sense of humor and he manages to keep sports in their true perspective.... As for Sports Center? Bet I haven't watched a full show in two years......Berman, Dibble, The "Boo Ya" Idiot, and Sean Salsbury .......all unwatchable/intolerable to me. |

I'll miss Eisen, but frankly, most of those SportsCenter talking heads are interchangeable. I hardly even distinguish one from the another. I do really like "that Boo-Yaa idiot" Stuart Scott.
The Baseball Tonight crew is better, in my mind. They are generally less polished (Brantley, Dibble, and even Gammons) but are died-in-the-wool baseball guys, total diamond nerds and that is what makes the show most watchable. www.worldsgreatestenglishclass.com |

"I thought I heard Keith." That is sad to hear that Eisen is leaving. Seems like he was the last of the old schooll guys doing SportsCenter. The new guys just don't cut it. Although for some reason I am starting to like Stuart Scott. But I don't blame anyone for not liking him. The Hold Steady Stevie Nix |

Man..this sucks. I've seen him in person twice (he did two "conversation" things here at OU). He seems like a great guy....hate seeing him leave ESPN.
Probably the best SportsCenter guy around other than DP and Berman. |

Rumor in the business is that Eisen made fun of those "David Aldridge has learned (insert already-on-the-newswire fact here)..." claims one too many times on the air.
They DESERVED to be made fun of, but saying so suggests that Eisen indeed was bored with this job. He's a funny guy, and ESPN is turning into a propaganda factory (okay, maybe it did years ago), so he may be better off in a better place...... leading an upstart by 1-3 pts, fasten your safety belts... 1984-90-93-02-04-05-07 champ Judge Jude All-Stars C Montero, CRuiz 6 1B AdGonzalez 39, 3B ArRamirez 32, 13 Loney 19 2B EYoung 5, SS Rollins 40, 2S Reyes 33, UT SDrew 20 OF JUpton 35, Victorino 29, CLee 27, ASoriano 16, Milledge 15 SP Halladay 44, Hanson 5, WRodriguez 26, Cueto 14, JSanchez 10, CRichard 8, Lowe 13, Wolf RP McClellan 10 (for Lindstrom-DL) |

Rich Eisen was one of their better guys- I'll miss seeing him on the ESPNews feed early in the mornings...
I don't care for much of the BB Tonight crew, although Gammons usually has something interesting to say, and Harold Reynolds has become a pretty decent analyst. I can stand Kurkijan, just because he's generally clued into rumors a la Gammons, but as for the rest, I could dump the whole lot...Bobby Valentine is a horse's @$$... -- Lucky |

From USA TODAY (Rudy Martzke)
Dropped by ESPN, Rich Eisen not only will host a show on the NFL Network in the fall but he will combine with Rick Barry as vacation hosts for James Brown's Sporting News Radio show starting this week. |

Eisen is underrated. People with charming personality, technically superior anchor skills, hollywood looks, and larger than life comic ability and perspective don't grow on trees. When ESPN decided to go with a more comedic, less serious news angle back in the day, they would have failed miserably if they didn't have the right people to do it. Guys like Eisen......are not interchangeable. Ask Saturday Night Live how hard it is to find good help these days. Maybe they can hire Eisen. |
