i agree sam...1-cedeno 2-alfonzo 3-alomar 4-piazza 5-vaughn 6-zeile 7-payton 8-ordonez....their top 5 is right up there with the other new york team and anyone else in the league....would be devastating if they still do the burnitz trade after getting vaughn...

Bad Rumor!!!! -

I'm hearing that if the Mo deal goes thru the Mets might trade Alfonzo. It makes some sense being that Zeil is still around and making 7 Mil. Zeil can't play the OF and if the Mets package Alfonzo and either Rusch or Chen they should get a quality #2 guy. I'm a Mets fan and hope it doesn't happen because I love Fonzy and expect him to have a huge year.

why is everyone so excited by Mo? -

Isn't this a guy who has been going downhill, getting older, fatter and is still pretty expensive?
Plus, from an FBB point of view he goes from American League to National and to a pitchers ballpark. I don't see much more than .290 with about 25 to 30 HRs with 100 RBI max, pretty unexciting stats from a 1B. just wondering, Greek |

I agree Greek,
Vaughn is an AL player period. As you pointed out, he's older and fatter and was declining before his injury. I thought at first when the Mets talked to Anaheim they were maybe using it as a ploy in regards to Juan Gonzalez, but I'd rather have Kevin Appier who is quietly effective rather than an expensive old fat Vaughn who puts another expensive guy (Zeile) on the bench... |

i'm shocked -

i'm shocked...besides all that was pointed out by dogchild and garydagreek, with his age and weight he is an injury risk (although i'll admit he's played most of the season for 5 straight years) -- both back and knees can't take the weight
the mets made a lot of good moves in the off-season but they made one too many if this goes down as expected |

I agree with the general consensus against Mo Vaughn being a huge improvement. First off, even if he defers some money the Mets are still giving up a quality starter for a $13 million man who hasn't had an above-average season for a first baseman since he left Fenway. Excellent move for Anaheim.

As a Phillies fan, I could not be happier than if the Mets do this deal! They would have done nothing to bolster what was arguably the worst OF in the league [other than an unmotivated defensive liability in Cedeno], and this will limit their chances to improve from the OF standpoint AND from the SP angle. Go Mets! Do the deal!

Hey Trader Mac there's always a few guys like that who I just love to throw out knowing full well that somebody will bid him up nice and high. I don't know if anybody would go $35 on Big Mo, but I could see $30 not being a total stretch, and I wouldn't want him at that price either. I always throw these guys into the auction early and let another guy waste their money so you can hopefully scoop up a bargain later. Anybody got any other guys like this on their draft lists, especially guys crossing over leagues for those of us in keeper leagues, who they plan on bidding up using this same tactic?
