Can I bank on Aubrey Huff. - 02-21-2003, 07:38 AM

Were the numbers Huff put up last year for real? Can owners expect that same kind of production out a 3b position this year?

Huff doesn't qualify at 3B in most leagues, only 14 games there last season. That said, I think last season was for real. He may not hit .313 again but he should get a few more ABs and a few more RBIs. I don't think Lou has enough options to possibly bench him, and I don't think he has any inclination to do so anyway. He should get 500 AB, maybe .285-26-75.

Huff is a good hitter and there is an old saying that says "Hitters hit". Basically, it doesn't matter where he plays, what team he's on and how much help he has, he is going to go out there every day and do what he knows how to do, hit. I'd say JC's projections on him are about right and, hopefully, the top of the D-Rays order learns how to get on a little more and you will see those RBI increase to as high as 90-100.

Hopefully, for my fantasy team's sake, Lou gets fed up with Sandberg's free-swinging ways and plays Huff at third some more.

I think my mask of sanity is about to slip." - American Psycho

Would you rather keep Huff @ $1 and 2 years left or Ramon Ortiz @ $14 and 2 years left?

@ $1 is a NO BRAINER!!!! The ROI should be at least $20. You'd have more cash available to go after a upper tier SP.

Huff is an absolute no-brainer to keep at a $1. Reap the benefits of a player that will make you at least a $20 profit this year.

Nice talent, but limited ceiling on that cruddy team, esp. with no Winn/Cox. Last year's sleepers become this year's overhyped players -- I'd be happy to let someone else overpay for him. I might pay $15, more if he is 3b eligible.

You get $15 plus profit with Huff and about $4-5 profit with Ortiz. Keep Huff. Trade Ortiz.

Good Luck
