The ideal pick next year in redraft is #3. So you can take whichever of Johnson, Peterson or Jones-Drew falls, and have a better 2nd round pick than the owners of the other two.

I disagree. Johnson is now the clear number 1 and Peterson might not even be 3rd at this point as Rice has been just as good. 2 picks higher in round 1 has more value than in round 2.

I do agree with Erik that being as low as #4 is a no-lose situation (at least as of now). If SJax or Gore were on better offenses and scoring more TDs, maybe they'd be in the mix for as a top 4 selection.

The progress, as in any such situation, has been sporatic, and I am aware they beat the Steelers on the back of 190 return yards, in just two plays. Pittsburgh would beat them 9 times out of 10. For that matter, San Diego will give them lumps ths week, but they are also a Super Bowl contender.

Still, there has been enough progress that I think they play Denver on even, or close to even, terms. Also the game is in KC, where Denver has always had trouble winning.

Those who pick Ray Rice at #4 or whatever probably won't be complaining either. Especially if McGahee is gone.

Except that these things don't stay static. This year's "clear number 1" is next year's #3, or even next year's bust. Happens all the time.

no arguement there. As of now though, AP is not the #1 pick at least in my eyes.
