This is the eighth AL voting period. The MLB Blog Poll votes on the MVP, Cy Young, and Rookie of Year

doing so, you get a cumulative snapshot of the award winners, instead
of the single vote. Previous blog poll results and voter comments can be found at the links below the fold.

Steve Keane - www.kranepoolsociety.com:
As we head into the second half of the season the voting for
the major awards gets more difficult. Now is when what your definition of MVP
is The best player or the player than lead his team to wins, I go with lead to
wins so that's why JD Drew got my first place vote as he has more than picked
up the offensive slack with Big Papi down with an injury. Justin Morneau leads
the suprising Twins and Josh Hamilton gets my third place vote but it was close
between he, Milton Bradley and Ian Kinsler.
Just give Roy Halladay the Cy Young Award already A 121/21 K
to BB spilt is sick
I feel bad for Jacoby Ellsbury having to compete with Evan
Longoria
Devon Young - devonyoung.com:
Lots of people keep talking about Cliff Lee for the Cy
Young, but for most of the season so far, Halladay and Duchscherer have pitched
significantly better than Cliff Lee. Lee had a fantastic start, but he hasn't
been consistent since early May. I can't ignore Mariano Rivera's 1.06 ERA with
NO blown saves.
Evan Brunell - Fire Brand of the American League:
MVP:
1. LF Milton Bradley, TEX:
Cannot ignore his numbers. He is hitting an obscene .316/.440/.610 for a
Rangers team that’s hanging around the fringes of contention.
2. 3B Alex Rodriguez, NYY: For all the problems the Yankees
have, A-Rod has kept them in the playoff hunt.
3. RF J.D. Drew, BOS: He is predictably cooled off after his
hot June, but he is keeping the numbers pretty strong in July.
Cy Young:
1. SP Cliff Lee, CLE: Gotta give the nod to the A.L. starter
for the All-Star Game. He is 12-2 with a 2.31 ERA.
2. SP Justin Duchscherer, OAK: Duke’s got an ERA of 1.82
after begging for years to start. We traded Duschscherer for Doug Mirabelli
eons ago.
3. SP Daisuke Matsuzaka, BOS: Had to do it. His sterling 10-1
record is excellent and he’s got a 2.65 ERA. We may be forced to overlook his
walk totals. Apparently he can get away with it.
Rookie of the Year:
1. 3B Evan Longoria, TB: When a dude from Tampa Bay gets
picked by the fans against Jason Giambi of New York and is a participant of the
Home Run Derby after not even opening the season in the majors, you know you’ve
got a winner on your hands.
2. CF Jacoby Ellsbury, BOS: He scuffled for a bit but has
come out of it just fine.
3. SP Nick Blackburn, MIN: A pleasant surprise, Blackburn finishes the first half with a 3.65 ERA.
Kyle Lobner - Brew Crew Ball
A great offensive
catcher deserves the MVP because so little of what is required of a catcher
comes from the offensive side.
I'm taking Lee over Duchscherer for better, K, BB and HR
numbers, Halladay for the complete games. Ian Kinsler may not get a ton of MVP votes, but he's
hitting, generating power, he's 23-for-24 stealing bases, he's on a winning
team and he plays a premium defensive position. What more could you ask for?
Lee Panas - Detroittigertales.com
The MVP continues to be a battle of Rangers as Ian Kinsler
edges out Josh Hamilton and Milton Bradley. Grady Sizemore is the best among
non-Rangers
The mid-season CY Young award winner is Cliff Lee and there
is nothing fluky about his numbers. He has simply been dominant this year.
Evan Longoria is living up to his hype as Rookie of the Year
so far. Armando Galarraga continues his surprise season for the Tigers.
Jason Collette - RotoJunkie.com
The MVP vote in the AL is going to be tough for writers because three of the best candidates play for the same team in Texas. How much will they split votes? How much will Morneau and Mauer split votes on the team?
Cy Young should be Lee's to lose although playing for a bad team is hurting both he and Doc Halladay. Justin Duchscherer continues to succeed but only us internet nerds are noticing. Hell, most people cannot spell his name correctly.
Longoria has sealed up the rookie of the year vote. He continues to surge while Ellsbury continues in a dreadful slump.
