Admit it, besides winning first place in your league, trade
negotiations are the best part about fantasy baseball. Is there anything better
than going back and forth for days, or weeks, to try to hammer out a trade? It
is rare that two owners value the same player at the same level and this leads
to a lot of hurt feelings or angry exchanges when trade offers show up in our
inbox. It happens, but in most cases, there can be a happy middle ground. Both
parties either come to an agreement or agree to disagree and move on. Either
way, it is a good experience because I maintain every trade negotiation is an
experience to build upon for future trade talks with that owner or other owners
in your league.

Robinson Cano came into 2008 with an average draft position in the low 60's and it is safe to assume that he is rostered in just about every league known to mankind right now. Yet, Cano trails only Troy Tulowitzki in offensive futility in 2008 at the start of the month of May. What gives?

I read to my son every night before we go to bed. He loves to look at the pictures in Dr. Seuss books and laughs at some of the rhymes in the books while not realizing that these funny stories are teaching him lessons. His favorite Dr. Seuss book happens to be Green Eggs and Ham and while I was reading it to him last night, I couldn't help but think about a certain young outfielder that I do not like in a house, or with a mouse. I do not like him here or there, I do not like him anywhere.

As we head down the backstretch of month one in our marathon
towards the finish line, even the most adamant of us that preach patience with
our teams need to dust off the desk once again and start taking a look
things. The season is easing into a
canter and players are fast approaching the 100 at-bat mark meaning it’s easier
for us to analyze how our players are performing from the still smallish
samples we have at our disposal. As the
at-bat totals climb the rate statistics won’t be subject to such wild
fluctuations with each 1-for-10 slump or 5-for-10 surge.

In the off-season I put together a piece highlighting the Middle
Relievers that are becoming ever-popular on the fantasy landscape as
teams speculate for saves and employ the MR-Methodology. What I aim to
do bi-weekly over the course of the season is put together a Middle
Reliever Hotsheet. It’ll highlight the best relievers, the sleepers
that have emerged, thought-to-be reliable relievers that aren’t
performing well and other oddities and frivolities that seem worthwhile
for inclusion.

Earlier this week, we reviewed pitchers and how early season stats can skew our outlook on performance as we evaluate potential free agent pickups. Hopefully people read the article because I pointed to the obvious regression coming for Kevin Millwood and Edwin Jackson and both had awful starts this week. Now, let's take a look at some batters that are off to rough or solid starts and decide the best plan of action. |
